Staff Picks: Kristina’s Free Things to Do in Chicago During the Holidays

To close out 2013, we asked library staff members to write lists–of anything they want. Today we feature Kristina Schwoebel’s list of free things to do around Chicago during the holidays.

Kristina is a reference librarian and the subject specialist for Math and Computer Science.

Fun free things to do in Chicago during the holidays:

-Christkindlmarket on Daley Plaza
An open-air market that has a lot to offer, including a number of different free musical events taking place at various times.

-Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo
Enjoy all the lights and decorations while hanging out with zoo animals and watching live nightly ice carvings.

-New Year’s Eve Midnight Fireworks
Check out the Navy Pier fireworks New Years Eve at midnight then catch a free ride home on the CTA (ride the CTA for free from 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 4 a.m. New Year’s Day)

-Visit the Bean
Walk around Millennium park and visit the bean (officially known as the Cloud Gate sculpture). Testing to see if it is cold enough to freeze your tongue to it is not recommended.
