Staff Picks – Nancy’s Top 5 BEST Christmas Candies

5.) Peanut Brittle: I know, love it or hate it.  I love it.  The best is homemade.  I have a dear friend who makes it in the microwave and if I whine enough, she’ll make a batch just for me.  If my husband is nice to me, I share it with him.   I must master making it myself as whining and not sharing is so unbecoming at Christmas time.

4.) Divinity: Speaking of divine, the perfect, old fashioned candy.  I don’t buy it, I make it both plain and with a chocolate twist.  Every Christmas, I dig out my candy thermometer and whip up several batches of the sweet confection.

3.) Dark chocolate caramel Santas by Russell Stover. I fell in love with Russell Stover candy in my college years in the 1980s.  The combination of dark chocolate and caramel is just divine.

2.) Anything by Hammond Candies out of Denver, CO.  Hammond’s makes candy canes and other holiday candy in small, hand-crafted batches.  Simply the best candy canes and ribbon candy ever.  Here in IL, I see Hammonds at Whole Foods and Target.

1.) M&Ms mint candies.  The best, I mean the best.  What more could a mint-chocolate fan ask for?   Usually only available at this time of year.  I’ve been known to stock up and then put bags in the freezer to stay fresh when I need a fix during the year.
