MacArthur “genius” Stuart Dybek and critically acclaimed master of the short story, will present\u00a0“Loyola in Fiction”. He will read a few passages from a few of his short stories, “Seiche” and “Lunch at the Loyola Arms” and talk about the sense of place and the role of autobiography in fiction.\u00a0 Q & A and reception will follow.Dybek’s work is heavily influence by his experiences growing up in Little Village-Pilsen, a diverse immigrant neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago. The Chicago Tribune<\/em> described his works as “Spellbinding stories that are, by turns, hilarious, stunning and tragic, but always deeply moving, genuine and compassionate.”Mr. Dybek received a bachelor degree and later a M.A. in literature from Loyola University Chicago and a M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. He currently teaches at Northwestern University after more than 30 years teaching at Western Michigan University, where he remains an Adjunct Professor of English and a member of the permanent faculty of the renowned Prague Summer Program.<\/strong><\/p>\n
