Loyola isn’t the only library putting photographs up on Flickr; the Library of Congress has uploaded over 3,000 photos categorized into two sets, “News in the 1910s” and “1930s-40s in Color.” The latter set will be of special interest to those studying domestic life during World War II; there are fascinating shots of everything from State Fairs to women working in factories during the war. Each photo is also accompanied by source info, format, call number, and other essential information.
Library of Congress also provides access to its photography collection at American Memory; the site contains over 9 million digitized images and sound recordings sorted into over 100 collections that document life in America. Quickly browsing the site, we found everything from a documentary project on 9/11 to a collection of Coca-Cola advertisements. This is a wonderful — and totally free! — resource.
