The Frontiers in Life Sciences Symposium will be holding a seminar at the Crown Center Auditorium on the Loyola University Chicago Lake Shore Campus. It will take place on April 18th at 4:00 pm. The keynote speaker, Dr. Lynn Margulis, is a distinguished university professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1983. In 1999 she received the National Medal of Science from President Clinton and The Library of Congress announced it will permanently archive her papers. She was a faculty mentor at Boston University for 22 years.
Her publications span a wide range of scientific topics and she greatly furthered the study and understanding of cell biology and microbial evolution. She is best known for her theory of symbiogenesis, which challenges a central tenet of neo-Darwinism.
