The University Libraries will hold its first Library Speaker Series event for 2008-2009 on Thursday, September 18th 2008 at the Water Tower Campus. We are delighted to have Kevin Davis, veteran journalist and Loyola author, as our guest speaker. Mr. Davis is a part-time journalism instructor at Loyola University Chicago and adjunct faculty member at the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Studies. His work has been featured in several publications including the Chicago Tribune and the American Bar Association Journal. Mr. Davis will discuss his latest non-fiction work, Defending the Damned: Inside a Dark Corner of the Criminal Justice System, a story about a team of battle-scarred lawyers fighting against all odds in Chicago’s Cook County Public Defender’s Office. Davis’ reporting gives the audience an insider’s look at a day in the life of public defenders and the challenges they face as life and death hang in the balance. Defending the Damned is a story that captivates readers by mixing courtroom drama and true-crime journalism into one good read.
Please join us for this special event on Thursday, September 18 at Rubloff Reception Room, 25 East Pearson at the Water Tower Campus. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and admission is free. Following the reception, a book signing will take place. Please RSVP to Carol Franklin at 773-508-2641 or cfrankl@luc.edu.
