Topic: Sources for Research: CRL Global Resources and the Changing Landscape
Scholars and researchers in the humanities and social sciences rely heavily on primary sources such as newspapers, government publications, and original documents. Traditionally libraries, particularly libraries at large research universities, have identified, collected and preserved such materials from the U.S. and other world regions. Today this work is more challenging — and more urgent – than ever, with the migration of documentation from paper to digital media. At the same time the contracting economy means fewer resources are available to libraries to support such work.
The Center for Research Libraries is a cooperative effort among libraries, including Loyola University Libraries, to preserve source materials for scholarly research and teaching. This presentation will discuss how CRL is responding to new needs and new conditions to ensure continuing scholarly access to those sources.
