In 1916, Carl Sandburg published his Chicago Poems, a celebration of our “city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.” 100 years later, the City of the Big Shoulders is still inspiring young poets. In honor of this anniversary, the Loyola University Chicago Libraries invite Loyola undergraduate and graduate students to submit their poems on the topic of, or inspired by the city of Chicago to Visions of Chicago, a Loyola student poetry contest.
The winner will be announced by March 24, 2016. The winner will receive four tickets to the Shedd Aquarium and will be invited to attend “Singing So Proud,” a gala in celebration of the anniversary, hosted by the Friends of the Loyola University Chicago Libraries, with a chance to read the winning poem at the gala.
Students should submit their poems via email to libraryprograms@luc.edu by March 15, 2016.
