There are currently over 70 innocence projects in the U.S.,
groups which work to free innocent people from prison. But until
a Loyola Law professor, Laura Caldwell, and her students began
Life After Innocence 2 years ago, there was no organization
focusing on assisting ‘exonerees’ to start their lives over. The
program was inspired by a client Caldwell represented pro bono
in a murder trial, a nineteen-year-old who was in a county jail
with no trial for six years. Caldwell writes about the experience
in Long Way Home: A Young Man Lost in the System and the Two Women Who Found Him, and will discuss the book, as well as Life After Innocence on October 27.

Ms. Caldwell is also the author of eleven novels.
