Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read. It was established in 1982 by First Amendment activist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judith_Krug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Judith Krug<\/a>. Books are challenged every year when\u00a0individuals or groups find their content inappropriate. Some books end up banned from school curriculums, from libraries, or throughout entire communities.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some popular books that have appeared on the ALA\u2019s lists of the frequently challenged\u00a0books in recent years. These books are available at the Loyola Libraries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/loyola-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01LUC:Library_Collections:01LUC_ALMA21115521310002506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0by Sherman Alexie<br \/>\nReasons for challenges in 2014: anti-family, cultural insensitivity, drugs\/alcohol\/smoking, gambling, offensive lan<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10982\" src=\"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/09\/hunger-games-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"hunger games\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" \/>guage, sex education, sexually explicit, unsuited for age group, violence.
