Books available at the Loyola Libraries are hyperlinked.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">Karen from the access services department recommends<strong>\u00a0<em>In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories<\/em><\/strong> by Alvin Schwartz.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">&#8220;One of my favorite books! A few of the stories scared the bejesus out of me. And looki<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11051\" src=\"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/10\/martian-chron-186x300.jpg\" alt=\"martian chron\" width=\"186\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/10\/martian-chron-186x300.jpg 186w, https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/10\/martian-chron.jpg 310w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 186px) 100vw, 186px\" \/>ng back, I don\u2019t really know why. But there is still something about this book that brings me back childhood.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">Abby of the reference department says,\u00a0&#8220;it\u2019s not SUPER spooky, but I love the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/loyola-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01LUC:Library_Collections:01LUC_ALMA21100276700002506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Martian Chronicles<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>by Ray Bradbury.\u00a0 It is really eerie, and unsettling at times, which I think makes it fall into the spooky category.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">Katherine from the cataloging department suggests\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/loyola-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01LUC:Library_Collections:01LUC_ALMA2191412070002506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Outer Dark<\/strong> <\/a><\/em>by\u00a0Cormac McCarthy<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">&#8220;This is one of the most <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11069 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/10\/cormac-194x300.jpg\" alt=\"cormac\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/10\/cormac-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/files\/2015\/10\/cormac.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/>chilling books I\u2019ve ever read. The basic plot follows a brother\u2014Culla\u2014and his sister\u2014Rinthy\u2014sometime around the turn of the century. Culla abandons his and Rinthy\u2019s newborn baby in the woods to die. When she discovers that the baby didn\u2019t die in childbirth, Rinthy sets out to find it. Culla then goes out searching for her, but three mysterious men\u2014who may be the literal embodiment of evil\u2014are also roaming the bleak landscape, leaving destruction in their wake.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">David Schmidt of the access services department says, &#8220;I\u2019m all about the classics.\u00a0 I recommend <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/loyola-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01LUC:Library_Collections:01LUC_ALMA21100044430002506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Don\u2019t Look Now<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>by Daphne duMarier (or, really, anything else by her) or <strong><em>The Collected Ghost Stories<\/em><\/strong> of M.R. James.\u00a0 Both are wonderfully enchanting authors who tell a great story with just the right chill for the Halloween season!&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">Sarah from the serials department suggests <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/loyola-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01LUC:Library_Collections:01LUC_ALMA21114001770002506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Broken Harbor<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Tana French. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span style=\"font-family: 'time new roman'\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve been reading a lot of detective novels lately and this one stands out as being particularly creepy.
