Let the People See: The Story of Emmett Till<\/em><\/strong> Tuesday, February 5, 2019 RSVP here to reserve your spot<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n The Loyola University Chicago Libraries is pleased to welcome\u00a0Loyola Professor Elliott J. Gorn as he discusses\u00a0his latest book,\u00a0Let the People See: The Story of Emmett Till.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>The book examines the life of a 14-year-old Chicago boy who was brutally murdered in 1955 in Mississippi, and the acquittal of his murderers despite overwhelming evidence. Dr. Gorn will\u00a0delve into why and how Emmett Till\u2019s story still resonates today.\u00a0 Even after\u00a063 years, the story continues to bring\u00a0much attention because according to Dr. Gorn,\u00a0\u201cit speaks to our growing awareness that racism is on the rise.\u201d<\/p>\n About the author<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0Elliott J. Gorn, PhD\u00a0is the Joseph Gagliano Chair of American Urban History, and has a distinguished record of scholarship, publication and excellence in teaching and student mentorship. His books and articles embrace multiple aspects of urban and American culture, particularly the history of various social groups in American cities since 1800. Dr. Gorn\u2019s work is interdisciplinary and intersects with numerous other fields.
