{"id":15446,"date":"2020-11-10T10:35:01","date_gmt":"2020-11-10T16:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/?p=15446"},"modified":"2026-01-12T15:35:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T21:35:46","slug":"hathitrust-etas-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/2020\/11\/10\/hathitrust-etas-access\/","title":{"rendered":"HathiTrust ETAS Access"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Loyola University Chicago has become the newest member of <a href=\"http:\/\/libraries.luc.edu\/databases\/database\/1746\">HathiTrust<\/a>, a global\ncollaborative of research and academic libraries working towards a shared mission\nto ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the\nfuture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users of Loyola University Libraries now have access to the\nHathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS).&nbsp; The ETAS permits\nspecial access for HathiTrust member libraries that suffer an&nbsp;<em>unexpected<\/em>&nbsp;or<em>&nbsp;involuntary,\ntemporary&nbsp;disruption<\/em>&nbsp;to normal operations, such as closure for a\npublic health emergency, requiring the library to be closed to its patrons, or\notherwise restrict print collection access services.&nbsp; The\nETAS makes it possible for our library patrons to obtain lawful access to\nspecific digital materials in HathiTrust that correspond to physical books held\nby our library. The ETAS will allow Loyola University Libraries to continue\nsupporting the teaching, learning, and research mission of our institution\nduring said disruption in service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To gain access to the full text of books currently accessible to\nus, log into HathiTrust (www.hathitrust.org) using your UVID, and enter your\nsearch terms in the single search box. View and download full-book PDF files of\nall Public Domain and Creative Commons-licensed volumes in HathiTrust\n(currently more than 6.9 million for U.S. users), as well as the thousands of\nin-copyright ebooks available temporarily while we continue to work and learn\naway from our campuses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Loyola University\nChicago Students, Faculty, and Staff will have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Continued access to the scholarly record of print collections\u00a0<\/strong>held by our libraries with a digitized copy in HathiTrust.<\/li><li><strong>Reading access to the book online, within a web browser.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Ability to \u201ccheck out\u201d a copy for a limited period of time<\/strong>\u00a0with an auto-renew feature for books still in use.
