{"id":17591,"date":"2025-11-19T17:12:55","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T23:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/?p=17591"},"modified":"2026-01-12T15:35:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T21:35:41","slug":"gerber-hart-and-university-libraries-celebrate-chicago-lgbtq-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libblogs.luc.edu\/noteworthy\/2025\/11\/19\/gerber-hart-and-university-libraries-celebrate-chicago-lgbtq-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Gerber\/Hart and University Libraries\u00a0Celebrate Chicago\u00a0LGBTQ+\u00a0History\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>University Libraries welcomed the Gerber\/Hart Library &amp; Archives to the Information Commons for our&nbsp;event&nbsp;<em>Archives in Action: Button Making with Archivists.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<br><em>By Easton Brundage, Research &amp; Education Librarian<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On November 6, 2025,&nbsp;Jen Dentel from Gerber\/Hart Library &amp; Archives brought a&nbsp;selection&nbsp;of historical buttons to highlight Chicago\u2019s LGBTQ+ history.&nbsp;These included&nbsp;buttons&nbsp;from historic gay bars&nbsp;around the city&nbsp;and&nbsp;slogans&nbsp;from different&nbsp;eras of&nbsp;the&nbsp;LGBTQ+&nbsp;rights movement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">StarRose&nbsp;Keyes-Lebergott&nbsp;from&nbsp;the Loyola Archives&nbsp;and Special Collections&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;Chanelle Davis from the Women and Leadership Archives&nbsp;brought&nbsp;historical&nbsp;buttons&nbsp;from our university collections for students to peruse.&nbsp;After&nbsp;viewing&nbsp;the&nbsp;archival buttons, students also had the opportunity to&nbsp;use the&nbsp;library&#8217;s&nbsp;craft supplies&nbsp;to&nbsp;create&nbsp;their own&nbsp;buttons&nbsp;inspired by the&nbsp;displays!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It&nbsp;was so exciting&nbsp;to celebrate and share our space with our wonderful neighbors.
