<\/a>The Loyola University Chicago Archives and Special Collections currently has several exhibits featuring items from the collection on display throughout the Lake Shore and Water Tower Campuses. These exhibits will <\/a>rotate, so be sure to watch for the <\/a>newest additions throughout the academic year. <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a>1909-2009: Centennial as a University<\/strong><\/font><\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

In 2009 Loyola University Chicago will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary as a university. Throughout the year the Loyola University Chicago Archives and Special Collections will be highlighting significant events from the past 100 years in the wall display case on the second floor of Cudahy Library. The current exhibit features historic photographs and documents from 1909-1945.\u00a0<\/font><\/font>\u00a0<\/font>\u00a0<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Cudahy<\/strong> Library – Quiet Reading Room <\/strong><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The display cases in the Cudahy Reading Room currently feature items highlighting the Dental School, Loyola Academy, Student Life, Alumni, Loyola presidents, and the Loyola campuses. Among the most interesting items on display are the record books from the Chrysostomian Society (Debate Club) with the signature of Carter H. Harrison, future mayor of Chicago. Other items on display include pictures of all 23 St. Ignatius College\/Loyola University presidents, a 1963 president\u2019s medallion for the College of Arts and Sciences, and a 1930 College of Commerce class ring.<\/font><\/font>\u00a0<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Information Commons – Quiet Reading Room<\/font><\/strong><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Theses and dissertations from the University Archives collection are on display in the cabinets in the Information Commons Quiet Reading Room. Ranging from the 1950s through the 1960s, these volumes show the transition period when Loyola started requiring that the degree received be printed on the spine of theses and dissertations. If you find an interesting topic among these volumes, please check Pegasus for the circulating volume.<\/font><\/font><\/font>\u00a0<\/font>\u00a0<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Law<\/strong> School<\/strong> Centennial <\/strong><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

To celebrate the Law School\u2019s centennial, the University Archives has created an exhibit featuring historic photographs and documents highlighting the early years of the School. This exhibit is currently on display at the Law School Library. The exhibit includes copies of the letter requesting St. Ignatius College to create a law school; photos of Fr. Dumbach, president of St. Ignatius College, and William Dillon,1st<\/sup> dean of the school; photos of all law school locations; and items relating to the Brandeis competition, held annually at the school.<\/font><\/font>\u00a0<\/font>\u00a0<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Jesuits and the Sciences<\/font><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

The rare book collection is featured in a display about Jesuits and the Sciences, which has been created in conjunction with the symposium on Jesuits and the Sciences to be held by the Hank Center for Catholic Heritage on September 18, 2008. This exhibit is located in the display cases on the first floor of Cudahy Library and features books on astronomy, earth sciences, mathematics, and physics.
