Ronen spent her career advocating for a variety of liberal causes, but is best known for her being the lead sponsor of the Illinois Human Rights Act of 2005.<\/p>\n<p>In 1992 Chicago\u2019s <strong>Carol Moseley Braun<\/strong> made history by becoming the first (and still the only) African-American woman to be elected to the United States Senate.
