The exhibition highlights four Illinois women who worked at varying levels of government: from Chicago\u2019s 48th ward all the way to the United States Senate. <\/h3>\n A progressive politician from Chicago, Carol Ronen<\/strong> served as both an Illinois State Representative (1993-2000) and Illinois State Senator (2000-2008). Ronen spent her career advocating for a variety of liberal causes, but is best known for her being the lead sponsor of the Illinois Human Rights Act of 2005.<\/p>\n In 1992 Chicago\u2019s Carol Moseley Braun<\/strong> made history by becoming the first (and still the only) African-American woman to be elected to the United States Senate.
