The Island of Doves<\/em> is a historical novel about two women\u2014wealthy fur-trader Magdelaine Fonteneau and runaway wife Susannah Fraser\u2014whose lives intersect on Mackinac Island in 1835.<\/p>\n

Please join us for a talk with author Kelly O\u2019Connor McNees<\/strong>, where she will focus on her research on the island\u2014particularly the remarkable life of Magdelaine LaFramboise, the \u201cfirst lady of Mackinac Island\u201d and the woman on whom the fictional protagonist is based.<\/p>\n

Kelly O\u2019Connor McNees is the author of three novels: The Island of Doves<\/em>, The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott<\/em>, and In Need of a Good Wife<\/em>, a finalist for the Willa Award. She lives with her husband and daughter in Chicago.<\/p>\n

Admission is free, and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.<\/p>\n
