Melissa Croteau is Professor of Film Studies and Literature and the Film Program Director at California Baptist University. Her research, teaching, and publications center on global cinema, religio-aesthetics, media adaptation, film theory and history, and early modern British literature and culture. Her recent publications focus on the cinema of Japan and India. She has published essays in Shakespeare Survey, Cahiers Élisabéthains, and several edited volumes. Her books include the monograph Re-forming Shakespeare: Adaptations and Appropriations of the Bard in Millennial Film and Popular Culture (2013) and co-edited volume Apocalyptic Shakespeare: Essays on Visions of Chaos and Revelation in Recent Film Adaptations (2009). She is writing the monograph Transcendence and Spirituality in Japanese Cinema: Spiritual, Human, and Ecological Approaches for Routledge.
