She completed her Ph.D. with \"summa cum laude\" in Indology at W\u00fcrzburg with a work about the Sanskrit theatre K\u016b\u1e6diy\u0101\u1e6d\u1e6dam (Na\u1e45\u1e45y\u0101r-K\u016bttu - ein Teilaspekt des Sanskrittheaterkomplexes K\u016b\u1e6diy\u0101\u1e6d\u1e6dam, Harrassowitz 2008). After starting to learn and stage Bharatan\u0101\u1e6dyam in 1989 she studied and performed K\u016b\u1e6diy\u0101\u1e6d\u1e6dam and Na\u1e45\u1e45y\u0101r-K\u016bttu from 1995 to 2001 with P.N. Girija and Painkulam Rama Chakyar at Kerala Kalamandalam in India. Since then she is involved in studying and teaching not only Kutiyattam but also the Malayalam language. In 2015 she established in cooperation with the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University the \u201cGundert Chair\u201d for Malayalam at T\u00fcbingen.
