Welcome from the Dean of Libraries!

On behalf of the staff of the University Libraries, I welcome our students and faculty back to campus for the fall 2011 semester. You will have already noticed big changes on campus, and there are changes in the libraries, too. The biggest is the fact that the Information Commons will be open 24/5 starting September 6. This change is in response to requests by many students to work in the IC later or arrive earlier than 7 a.m. The new schedule is considered a pilot so we can determine use and cost-benefit.

Other changes you will notice are an updated library website, new photocopy machines (which provide scanning capabilities), many more electrical outlets in Cudahy Library to keep your laptops, tablets, iPods, and cell phones charged, and new computers and chairs in Cudahy and the IC. Many of these changes are in response to your requests, so please continue to answer our periodic surveys or just let us know what we can do better. In the Lewis Library at Water Tower, the seventh floor now is the home of some Law School offices, though the reading room is still available to library users. Access is now only via the elevators. Best wishes for a great academic year!
