New Resources: Worldcat Local

The beta version of Worldcat Local (WCL) is now available to faculty, students and staff. You can preview the site at: http://luclibrary.worldcat.org

WCL is unique in that it combines results from both the local library catalog and WorldCat, an international library catalog reflecting millions of worldwide holdings. Patrons can not only easily find materials at Loyola, but discover nearby universities or public libraries that have what they need.

The new catalog’s functional and highly navigable interface alleviates patron frustration and makes it easy to do library research. Users can search for books and articles simultaneously; quickly filter their search results; find similar items; and export citations and create bibliographies. Social networking features including tagging, book reviews, and the ability to share items of interest on Facebook, Twitter, and a host of other sites. While the traditional online catalog sits in isolation on the library’s server, WorldCat Local integrates Loyola’s library collection into a larger, more dynamic online context.
