The University Libraries is proud to announce the recipients of the inaugural Student Employee Scholarship Program, a new initiative aimed at supporting student workers employed at library locations on the Lake Shore Campus, Water Tower Campus, and Health Sciences Campus. Through the generosity of donors, the Student Employee Scholarship Fund provides financial support to help offset students’ tuition at Loyola University Chicago or Arrupe College. The scholarship fund also recognizes the dedication and hard work of student employees who balance their academic responsibilities with their job commitments.
2025 Scholarship Recipients
After a thorough review process, the selection committee has chosen the following students as the awardees for this year. These students have demonstrated excellent academic performance and meaningful contributions to the Libraries. Each will receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship.
- Mariah Huley – Healthcare Administration, undergraduate student
- Katrina Partlow – Digital Humanities, graduate student
Application and Review Process
Applications for the scholarship were accepted from the fall 2024 semester of the current academic year through the following spring semester. Students submitted essays describing how the award would help them financially and how working in the Libraries has supported their academic success at Loyola and in their future goals.
Additional eligibility requirements included current enrollment with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, at least one semester of employment in good standing at a library location, and demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
This year’s selection committee, composed of Marianne Ryan, Dean of Libraries, Tori Golden, Research & Learning Librarian, Colleen Haggerty, Access Services & Operations Manager, and Tracy Ruppman, Research & Learning Librarian, reviewed the essays based on factors such as the applicants’ dedication to quality service and the impact the Libraries had on their academic pursuits. Applicants were evaluated using set criteria that considered how well they responded to the essay questions and followed the application instructions.
Looking Ahead
The University Libraries is committed to continuing this scholarship program in the coming years, with the goal of recognizing and supporting more student employees. Applications for the next round of scholarships will open in the fall semester.
