The University Libraries is proud to announce the outstanding 2026 scholarship recipients of the Student Employee Scholarship Program, an initiative supporting students employed at library locations on the Lake Shore Campus and Water Tower Campus. Thanks to donor generosity, our Student Employee Scholarship Fund provides financial support to help offset students’ tuition at both Arrupe College and Loyola University Chicago. The scholarship fund also recognizes the valiant efforts students make to balance student employment with academic responsibilities and fulfill their job commitments.
After a thorough review, the selection committee has chosen three students as this year’s awardees. These students have demonstrated excellent academic performance and meaningful contributions to the Libraries. We are proud to share their perspectives on receiving the award through a series of posts, starting with Candace Mack.

Candace Mack, a double major in Secondary Education and History, reflects on her experience at Loyola and herself, “I strive to be a person for others; someone others can rely on, and my time at Loyola—along with working in different departments has shown me what that looks like in practice. These experiences have taught me how to put cura personalis (care of the whole person) into tangible action throughout my life.”
Mack also shared her thoughts on what the Student Employee Scholarship means to her, “I am truly grateful to have received this scholarship. Receiving this award has been both encouraging and affirming.” Mack offered her wisdom, “One piece of advice I would offer to my fellow students or those who are interested in working at the University Libraries is to continue supporting local and collegiate libraries even after graduation. Libraries are incredibly important hubs of knowledge and community, and they do so much to support the people they serve.”
