Loyola University Chicago Libraries is pleased to announce that Moon Kim has been named Associate Dean of Collection Strategy, effective October 12, 2026.

Kim brings extensive leadership experience in academic library operations, overseeing collections and acquisitions, resource management, licensing, electronic resources, interlibrary loan, conservation and preservation, and cross-institutional partnerships. As the associate dean, Kim will provide strategic vision, administrative oversight, and operational direction for the full spectrum of the Libraries’ collections portfolio.

“I am delighted to welcome Moon to the leadership team. Her expertise in collection development, e-resource licensing, and building strong partnerships will be invaluable as we advance the Libraries’ strategic priorities in the years ahead,” said Jamie Wittenberg, dean of University Libraries.

Prior to joining Loyola, Kim served as head of collections services at the University of British Columbia Library (UBC), where she provides strategic leadership for a highly impactful portfolio that includes licensing, acquisitions, electronic resources, interlibrary loan, conservation and preservation, and UBC’s high‑density storage facilities, Automated Storage and Retrieval System and Library Preservation and Archives, on the Vancouver campus. She oversees the financial, legal, and systems infrastructure that supports resource procurement and management across all formats, disciplines, and languages, ensuring sustainable, equitable, and effective access to information resources.

Kim played a key role in cross‑institutional initiatives, from system migrations to international partnerships, including support for UBC Library’s 100‑day conservation exchange with Fudan University in Shanghai, a project that advanced technical expertise, strengthened cross‑cultural partnerships, and contributed to the long‑term preservation of UBC’s distinctive collections.

Kim’s research examines library collection strategy, acquisitions infrastructure, and collaborative approaches to building distinctive collections, work that informs mission-aligned collection policy development and stewardship practices. She previously held collections and acquisitions roles at the Ohio State University, California State University Fullerton, University of Washington, and the Getty Research Institute.

She received an MLIS, a Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities, and a BA in Greek and Latin from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Please join us in welcoming Moon Kim to Loyola. We look forward to the contributions she will make to our community.
