The University Libraries is proud to announce the outstanding 2026 scholarship recipients of the Student Employee Scholarship Program, an initiative supporting students employed at library locations on the Lake Shore Campus and Water Tower Campus. Thanks to donor generosity, our Student Employee Scholarship Fund provides financial support to help offset students’ tuition at both Arrupe College and Loyola University Chicago. The scholarship fund also recognizes the valiant efforts students make to balance student employment with academic responsibilities and fulfill their job commitments.

After a thorough review, the selection committee has chosen three students as this year’s awardees. These students have demonstrated excellent academic performance and meaningful contributions to the Libraries. We are proud to feature their perspectives on receiving the award through a series of posts. Next in the series is Kaushal Bhattarai, student supervisor at Cudahy Library, pictured above (left) with Jamie Wittenberg, Dean of University Libraries.

Bhattarai noted that he is “…currently pursuing a master’s in Computer Science with a focus on Data Management under the Information Technology concentration. In addition, I have completed coursework in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. With a background in full-stack development, I am interested in building scalable, data-driven and AI-enabled software systems after graduation. Working at the Libraries has helped me develop important skills like time management and attention to detail that will be useful throughout my career.”

Bhattarai also gave valuable advice to student workers, “For my fellow students, I would encourage you to consider working in campus departments like the Libraries. These positions offer more than just a paycheck. They provide opportunities to develop professional skills and contribute to the university. I also encourage students to apply for scholarships. The application process takes time, but the support you can receive makes it worth the effort.”

Bhattarai also shared what receiving the Student Employee Scholarship means to him. “Receiving this scholarship is meaningful to me for several reasons. The financial support helps reduce the cost of my education, which allows me to concentrate more on my studies. Being recognized for my work at the Libraries also encourages me to continue performing well in both my academic and professional responsibilities.”
