Archives at LUMA

The new exhibit at LUMA, Crossings and Dwellings, marks the 200th anniversary of the Jesuit Restoration and women religious in Chicago. The exhibit uses books, objects, textiles, and other items to tell the story of the European Jesuits and women religious who arrived in America to serve local populations. Along with the hundreds of items on display are materials from the University Archives and Special Collections. The exhibit features some of the follow materials from the Archives and Special Collections:

• A rare first edition of the Spiritual Exercises, published in Latin in 1548
• 1875-1878 handwritten St. Ignatius College Library catalog
• Photographs of St. Ignatius College
• Original artwork by Melville Steinfels for the fresco in the Madonna della Strada Chapel
• Father Mertz’s Madonna della Strada Chapel construction photo album
• Several prints and rare books co-owned by Loyola University Chicago Archives and Special Collection and The Newberry Library

Crossings and Dwellings will run until October 19, 2014. Stop by LUMA to see this great exhibit and items from the Archives! LUC.edu/crossings
