Keziah Wallis is an Assistant Professor in the Anthropology programme at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. Her research draws upon current trends in phenomenological and experiential anthropology as well as lived and feminist approaches to religion to examine the importance of Buddhist concepts in everyday life in Myanmar. Her doctoral dissertation, which was unanimously nominated for ‘exceptional’ status analyses the multiple dimensions of the Bamar concept of yeseq, or the ‘bonds of kamma‘ that form between people across multiple rebirths. Her current project examines the changing dynamics of women’s temporary ordination practices in rural Myanmar.
